Canadian fertility clinics Anonymous Sperm Donor - Becoming a Donor
Canadian fertility clinics We are a medically-oriented facility which cryopreserves human spermatozoa for future use. As one facet of our services, we provide frozen donor semen specimens to physicians for use in therapeutic donor insemination.

Recent statistics indicate that 15% of couples experience infertility problems. For many of these cases insemination with donor sperm (DI) represents a line of therapy. Since the early 1980's, the clinical practice of TDI has become more prevalent. More and more physicians are seeking cryopreserved donor semen specimens, since frozen specimens are able to be quarantined, and donors screened to ensure specimens are free from sexually transmitted diseases.
Because the practice of DI has increased significantly over the past few years, we are finding it difficult to keep up with the demand for cryopreserved specimens. There are countless couples without children who are unable to obtain the requested donor due to the lack of acceptable donors. Therefore, we are actively seeking new donors to add to our program.

We evaluate the semen specimens, the physical and medical/genetic history, and screen applicants for sexually transmitted diseases. We ask you to consider carefully all possible implications involved with becoming a donor. We require that donors possess a sincere, positive attitude with respect to semen donations. We also require that once you are accepted into our program that you will stay with our program for at least one year. We prefer married donors with proven paternity. Donors must be in excellent health and free of hereditary diseases.

The following is the procedure for becoming a donor:

1. Complete the online application form.
2. After reviewing the donor application submitted, and based on our current needs, we would then contact you for a personal interview.
3. At the time of the interview, we will review your application with you and discuss your reasons for wishing to become a donor. You will complete a medical/genetic history form detailing three generations of your family history and sign a release of information form to allow us to obtain your medical file from your family physician. You will be asked to sign a consent form releasing all rights regarding the disposal and results of the artificial inseminations.
4. You will be asked at that time to provide a semen specimen by personal masturbation in a private room on our premises. You must have a minimum of 3 days of abstinence of ejaculation, and no more than 5 days prior to this appointment.
5. We will then complete the semen analysis and determine the most effective way by which to cryopreserve (freeze) your specimen. The initial semen specimen is utilized entirely for testing. ReproMed requires specimens which are above the norm in all respects. If acceptable, we would require an additional specimen within the next seven days.
6. At the time of the second appointment, appropriate serology/virology screening (blood work) will be done. You will be tested for all sexually transmitted diseases including HIV. You will also provide a second semen specimen here on our premises, maintaining the required abstinence period.
7. At the time of your third screening appointment, you will provide a semen specimen, maintaining the required abstinence period.
8. At the time of the fourth appointment, you will provide a semen specimen, maintaining the required abstinence period, after which you will have a complete physical with our Medical Director. He will also review the reports and assessments of the previous three appointments at that time. If all parameters are normal in all respects, you will be accepted into the program.
9. Once you have been accepted into the program, you will provide a semen specimen on the premises once per week, maintaining the required abstinence period. Due to the nature of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, we require a blood specimen every 30 days.
10. All appointments and specimens are handled with the utmost confidentiality.
11. If you feel that you would like to be a part of this program, or have questions regarding it, please call us. We would welcome the opportunity to schedule an appointment with you. Specific details regarding procedures and remuneration will be discussed with you at the time.
